About Lincoln Roch

The quick stuff
I’m Lincoln Roch and I am currently studying Multimedia Journalism, Digital Media Production, and History at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Additionally, I have a minor in Environmental Sustainability and Resilience. While at Drake I have been active in four student publications including The Times Delphic student newspaper where I am a staff writer and The Drake Political Review where I am a staff editor. Outside of journalism, I am a member of the Drake Outdoor leadership club and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
How I got started
Lincoln Roch was raised in Louisville, CO where I first gained an interest in Journalism after joining my high school’s student newspaper. I then launched a five-minute weekly student news broadcast where I served as both an anchor and Executive Producer during my senior year. Through that experience, I learned practical skills like shooting videos for news, voice-over writing, and video editing in premiere pro. I also learned valuable leadership skills as I oversaw 20 students. The broadcast was recognized by the Colorado Student Media Association with its highest award the All-Colorado Award. I also was recognized for state-house reporting by the CSMA and COVID-19 coverage from the National Scholastic Press Association.
The future
I plan to pursue a career in broadcast or public radio journalism at the local level. My biggest interests are Colorado state politics and urban planning. My goal is to get to report on both extensively during my career. My two greatest inspirations in journalism have been the public radio show This American Life and the local news broadcast Next With Kyle Clark on 9news in Denver. I have not missed an episode of This American Life in six years and still watch Next with Kyle Clark weekly in College to stay connected to my home state. Both do incredible jobs at providing public service journalism that can captivities their audiences and has been pioneers in doing so.
I am currently looking for internships in both the Des Moines and Denver area where I can have the opportunity to improve my journalistic abilities. I enjoy long days, tight deadlines, and the ability to tell people’s stories.
When I am not in school I enjoy getting outdoors. I am an avid skier during the wintertime and try to get between twenty and thirty days in each season. I also enjoy hiking and backpacking during the summers. Last summer I was fortunate enough to summit Crazy Peak in Montana during a three-day backpacking trip.
